Governors support wind energy tax credit - The Governor's Wind Energy Coalition, which includes Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin, is calling on Congress to extend a federal tax incentive for the wind industry.

If the Feds want to continue accelerated depreciation and other tax deductions--fine.  But no more funds extracted from taxpayers should be used to support a technology which will end up compromising the reliability and cost of electrical power.   And no more production tax credits either--a deduction for expenses is reasonable, especially if accelerated depreciation means they write it off earlier but no longer have the write-off later so it kind of offsets over time.  But a tax credit wherein the parent company of the developer gets to slice money off his tax bill--no.  Nor a cash grant in lieu of PTC where taxpayer funds are being used to finance 30% of the capital costs of a project--no.

These programs are income redistribution from the half or so of us who actually pay income tax to those who don't AND to the corporations who do not pay any taxes because of all their tax credits.  The whole joke of it is, these corporations (GE comes to mind) make money on both sides of the fence--selling wind turbines and solar panels partially paid for by the taxpayer instead of the developer and selling the fossil-fuel generating equipment to provide back up power for the unreliable, parttime renewable generating equipment.
