88.8% of Brazil's electricity comes from renewable sources - Renewable energy sources accounted for 88.8% of the electricity generated in Brazil in 2011.

There are some details missing such as how much of the total energy was hydro, how much was wind, how much was solar, how much was biofuel, how much was coal, how much was natural gas etc.  Also missing is what is the extent of electrification--what percentage of the population has electricity service on a regular basis?  If I remember correctly, Brazil has a massive percentage of its electricity from hydro so these details are important when bragging about the proportion of renewable power.   The average cost of industrial/commercial/residential electrical power would also be a nice detail to know.

Question: If Brazil is so renewables conscious, why did the US loan them $2bn for deepwater oil exploration?
