White House urges renewal of wind energy tax credits - Congress needs to act quickly to extend a tax credit for the wind industry, potentially saving more than 37,000 jobs next year, including several hundred in Minnesota, a White House official visiting the Twin Cities says.

The PTC is a waste of taxpayer dollars--no, it is theft of taxpayer dollars to put into the pockets of BP, GE, Google and a host of others--a reverse Robin Hood.  And it accomplishes little if anything to reduce CO2 emissions since wind must be backed up with fossil power including some that must stay on-line at low loads (an inefficient mode of operation) to make up for the high variability of wind and to stabilize frequency.

All the PTC is doing is driving up the cost of doing business in the US further encouraging off-shoring of jobs to China, India, Vietnam etc.  These countries are busily building coal-fired generation at an astounding rate.  Net result, no decrease in worldwide CO2 emissions.
