Power failure in India should not make news. There are umpteen power failures here at various voltage levels except perhaps those run by Power Grid of India which fail rarely. There are poor maintainence standards in various states as they are politics  and corruption ridden and can not run a straight administratuion at any point of time

So do not think that this is news!.

member photo In India, continuous power supply for at least 24 hours is significantly newsworthy than a power failure. Regardless of which grid or region, power-failure is the norm. Amongst the member states of the various power-grids, there is no accountability as to the power each state can draw from the grid. In the 1990s, the south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh was notorious in overdrawing the power thereby causing numerous cascading outages from the Southern grid, the hardest hit state being the then electricity surplus state of Tamil Nadu. Bihar being one of the most backward states in the nation hasn't implemented long-term policy programs for sustained power production and transmission. Many Indian states will do well, if they stop the populist policies of providing free electricity to farmers.
