It is ironic hat these days lot of suchissues which elate to power companies are being commented by totally non -conversant people who have never worked in Power nor will ever work in near future.

The only people who should be writing or commenting that is those who operate power utilities are absent from such discussions. It is an extremely dangerous trend and I am told that in India a person who has political leanings close to the party in Power is to head a mission to set up Smart Grid. It is known that man has no experience of Power sector whatsoever and has led the Govt to believe that Digital infra will help or abolish the theft of Energy which now suddenly the Govt has calculated at USD 7 Billion per year..

It is clear that it is an attempt to silence the power engineers who have spent their entire life in catching thiefsand suddenly start talking about such issues largely to support IT companies where politicians have invested lot of Money. What better way to protect than put a novice in the field who does not know abou the subject more than the meter at his home?.Is it not a systematic attempt to hoodwink the public and divert the attention from the main Issue?

The fact remains that theft of Energy in a country like India is often looked about by political comfortable engineers who have some instructions to let the thiefs go away, by their political masters.Every year the Electricity board raises the sale price saying that they are unable to control the theft and hence this cost must be recovered from those that are honest. What a justification for incompetance ?

Now that Smart grid is being talked about these fellows want to take control of this , siphon off large IT contracts to their favourites and eat away the money that is proposed to be spent. So much for the smart grid !

All over theworld Power eNgineers should raise their voice against such cheating and Academics should raise it at every plateform,
