As I write this it is becoming more and more complex to talk on smart grid - essentially a simple idea no more than improving the availability of power and effeciency etc.Actually the word smart itself is pretty confusing which I never used when I made a report on such grid which was made in early 2003 and so complex that till dte not a ingle project of that order has come about- This was done for Power Grid of India.Powerr grid ishowever trying to implement is part by part.If you see the use of the word smart and I also got hooked to it- it is very cinfusing in its way-By this telephone hascbeen smart since it was invented. In my view it is new age metering and nothing more. Then his demand response , when we are gong to build so many generation sources what would be the point in telling the consumer to cut the usage? After all we are gong to cut the carbon di oxide. Then the grid is supposed to provide power reliably to all at good quality. So if you start doing reengineering to achieve it why does it becomes smart?I think we are doing an injustice to the our peers and those who brought us up to this point by telling that they were obsolete before !All those who are telling that they need to know how a smart grid will behave need to go back and read basics of grid design. I am afraid we are being taken down a path where there will finally be a grid which just does not resemble the grid at all.By all means inject as much of IT as you can but keep the whole issue simple and focused.
