There is huge application opportunities for remote metering technologies in every sphere of economic activity and in Fact,In South Africa this has been there for last fifteen years.If you do energy audit without measuring it, is waste of time..We have been talking of demand response /demand management etc but all this requires some form of getting the data.Remote metering will be able to manage the demand in Industrial enterprises and help in developing strategies to reduce it thus saving costs.Now wide scale application of remote metering wil lower cost of this echnology and make it more feasibile.

In fact we in India are just planning to do this.A program is soon to be started where remote ,metering technology will be used in Refineries/ steel mill etc to measure the energy use and plan its reduction on  daily basis.There are plans to extend it very widely to every sphere to save energy and effect energy effeciency poprograms .Later the process of demand management will be automated.

In order to develop technical personnel remote metering labs are being proposed in some 100 technical collegesThese labs will later be developed into smard grid labs.Technology is being sourced from a major utility.The price of this project is being kept very low so that affordability is not effected.
