The e-GGRT system was released by the EPA for a sandbox session which expired July 1, 2011. The new web-based system was created to provide an electronic greenhouse gas reporting tool, and provide information for users that will facilitate the ability to understand and abide by current legislative requirements of the Clean Air Act's Mandatory Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program. After registering, users will be able to submit emissions data for their facilities and suppliers and will have the ability to submit Certificates of Representation to the EPA through the system.
The e-GGRT system allows a user to access data submission requirements for the greenhouse gas legislation by providing reporting forms, guidance on emission factor calculations, and help guides to navigate the industry specific sections. Parties in scope of the legislation are required to use the e-GGRT tool for data submissions; accordingly, planning for and implementing data collection strategies is essential for compliance with the program.
Any GHG regulatory planning program must take into account the metrics for data submission that are outlined by the e-GGRT tool. In addition to which, your inventories of fuel usage and electronic systems of record should be capable of generating reports that can easily interface with the e-GGRT XML reporting schema. Failing to account for these requirements during the implementation of Enterprise Carbon and Energy Management (ECEM) software tools will result in dedicating significant resource to deriving emission factor calculations and manual data entry.
These data collection and management requirements are significant and necessitate a diligent proactive approach to managing corporate GHG emissions.
