U.S. companies in the Off-Shore Wind (OSW) space continue to pursue the success of their European counterparts. While off-shore wind patterns indicate the likelihood of relatively high capacity factors, there's another added bonus of OSW--congestion relief and electric price premiums.

While much of the transmission congestion in the eastern interconnection is based on the flow of cheap coal-fired generation flowing west-to-east, OSW comes through the back door, pumping renewable energy to the metropolitan areas that need it. Hopefully some of these projects will come to fruition to prove out their promise of a clean, reliable energy source.
