Just the other day, a colleague of mine at Energy Central asked if I would blog a little more often. I don’t mind. But as I’ve explained before, I’m really just a “quiet observer.”
No one disagrees that intelligent analysis is my “day job.” All things considered, there is a place for informal talk – a forum to tell readers what you really think.
To placate the higher-ups, I agreed to write more blogs. Interestingly, a similar discussion occurred shortly thereafter with an acquaintance who told me about “Twitter.” Now you can imagine that if I’m queasy writing detailed blogs, I’m even more unsettled penning “micro blogs” whereby minor insights and happenings are shared with “followers.”
Well, one thing led to another. I got bored and created a “Twitter” account: Freehand1200. Now, all of sudden, I’ve got a lot of new friends. I’ve never felt so needed. I tend to attract energy and media types, which can be a very alluring bunch.
Last evening, I told my small group that I went to a little league baseball game and got home at 11 p.m. One empathetic reader responded via direct mail that she had a ballet recital and at her first opportunity, would let her fans know how it went. I’m on pins and needles.
Ah, the nuances of modernity. Gone are the days when journalists are anonymous bylines. Enter the time when we share our casual insights. It’s the new reality – and one in which I and others will have to become more familiar. ###

I write my blogs and then I posted them in twitter. Twitter shortens the links. I sent you the title "modern life" and the whole link and it became http://tinyurl.com/cbffqo
