Biomass conversion technologies transform a variety of wastes into heat, electricity and biofuels by employing a host of strategies. Biomass fuels are typically used most efficiently and beneficially when generating both power and heat through a Combined Heat and Power (or Cogeneration) system. Combined Heat and Power (CHP) technologies are well suited for sustainable development projects, because they are, in general, socio-economically attractive and technologically mature and reliable. In developing countries, cogeneration can easily be integrated in many industries, especially agriculture and food-processing, taking advantage of the biomass residues of the production process. This has the dual benefits of lowering fuel costs and solving waste disposal issues. Prime movers for CHP units include reciprocating engines, combustion or gas turbines, steam turbines, microturbines, and fuel cells. The success of any biomass-fuelled CHP project is heavily dependent on the availability of a suitable biomass feedstock freely available in urban and rural areas.

member photo Dear Salman,

I read your article and it really fascinated me to see your biography as at this young age you have made a successful career. Therefore, I require a career advice from the successful people in Energy World. First let me give you a brief of my qualifications etc,

My first degree was in Electronics Engineering (BS) and I have done my MSc in Energy, Environmental Technology & Economics from City University in London. The reason of doing that particular MSc was to work within Renewable Energy industry by incorporating my Electronics Engineering technical knowledge with the economical & environmental knowledge of Energy to grow the career in Project Management of Renewable Energy Projects.

However from last three years I have been working with the building services consultants in United Kingdom with no growth and no involvement in Renewable Energy Projects (as building services is the core business & no renewable projects available). Therefore, I really wants to seek an advice regarding the best way to move forwards towards my goal should I do some more courses particularly in Renewable Energy industry (if yes please state what courses should I take) or the organisations where I can develop my career.

I shall be really grateful for all of your sincere advice and help.

Regards

Umer
