About Pathways to Zero-Carbon Energy Systems

Policy goals are now being established that seek 80% reductions in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Meeting these goals will require extensive use of zero-carbon energy carriers in addition to low carbon or zero-carbon primary energy sources. Solid and liquid hydrocarbon energy sources must be converted to low-carbon fuels or energy carriers. Commercial deployment will be expensive and difficult and will require innovation and risk-taking. How do we get there from here?
